Beauty Blogger Headquarters: March Task Photo/Video Editing

Hi Everyone!!
Sorry for my basic blog posts this week.  Normally I write my posts for the week on Sunday but Hubby had a free time last weekend so we spent it 4x4ing. :)  This weekend I will get back to my more in depth posts.

Another tidbit this week.  One of the Financial Advisors who worked in my office lost his battle with cancer on Monday.  I really looked up to Bart and thought he was a gem!  He actually peaked my interest in photography and pretty much taught me what I know.  I am grateful for the time I had with Bart but I am going to miss him dearly. :(  I haven't been emotional yet because I am so focused on my full time job but if you don't hear from me for a few days you know what is up. :)  This week has also been crazy at the office.

Every month I participate in the Beauty Blogger Headquarters tasks.  This month is all about Photo/Video editing programs. :)

1.  What programs do you use and have you used in the past?  Likes/Dislikes
Photos:  I use PicMonkey to edit my photos.  I pay for the premium membership.  With the premium membership you have access to the whole site.  I LOVE PICMONKEY.  I am actually working on purchases Photoshop and Lightroom.

Videos: IMovie11-  I love Imovie11.  I think it is super easy to use and the videos turn out great!

2. What are your thoughts on photo editing programs? Free/Purchased
Photography is really important in the blogging world.  I don't think to be a successful blogger you need to own expensive programs but find a program that is easy for you to use and edit your pictures.  If it is easy for you, your pictures will be beautiful!

3.  What are your thoughts on editing videos on Youtube?
Don't do it.  i think it is a huge pain to use.  I would purchase a program to edit videos.

4.  What photography apps do you have on your smartphone?
I actually have none.  I prefer to edit on my computer. Sometimes I will play with some features on instagram but i don't get fancy with it.

5.  What is your editing process like?
It depends on how much time I have.  I try to plan my blog posts out and spend a couple days a week taking pictures.  I try to edit as many of the pictures as I can.  Even if i am not sure I am going to use the picture I still edit it.  Better to have it done than have to go back.  I try not to have raw photos on my computer unless it is something special.

6.  What equipment do you use?
Computer-MacBook PRO
Software: PICMONKEY AND Imovie11

Planning: I am a pen and paper kind of girl. I use a binder to keep me organized

CAMERAS:
Nikon D3100- Still Photos Only
I am still figuring this camera out :)

Canon PowerShot SX10IS- Video and Stills

GoPro HERO3 Black- Video

IPhone: When i forget to charge my other cameras :)

EXTRAS:
I use a simple white board to do my swatches.  I like this idea because sometimes your skin can throw off colors.

I built a white photobox out of foam board.  Easy Peasy.

I do not have any lighting yet.  I am still researching :)

What does your set up look like??  Once I get my craft room finished I will do a room tour.

I love the foam board photobox idea! So easy and cheap. And, um, collapsible! (I have a tiny house!!)

I'm drooling over the color of your Nikon camera. Nice to see that many of use use Picmonkey. I love how user friendly it is and you're gonna love Lightroom when you get it. It's a fantastic software. While it's true that the makeup color will change depending on your skin color, I still personally prefer to see swatches on the skin because eventually that's where the makeup is going.

Thanks for all of the great comment. I went and saw Barts wife today and I finally feel like I have some closure. :)

I will do a tutorial on how to build some photo boxes. I have one that I can fold up and one that is not. :)

I actually used my arm for swatches for a long time but my pictures ever came out super clear :( I started using the while board and I found it easier (for me) to swatch.

Hubby purchased my Nikon at Best Buy. I love it!!

Take Care,
Mandy Jean

This is going to sound bad, but I usually just put the object on top of my white freezer against my white wall and tip over one of our lamps. Real professional, right? Haha
