Building A Wardrobe- Day #5- Your Body

I am so excited to start the 31 days of building a wardrobe on a budget series.  I am linking up with the Nesting Place.  Many bloggers are taking the challenge also! Visit the Nesting Place and check out the many topics.  There are seriously 100s!

RECAP
DAY #3- Accessories

We have a cleaned closet, our shoes are clean, accessories are organized, we have our wardrobe catalog started and we have some great outfit inspirations.  What is next???

One of the most important parts of building a wardrobe is to know you body type and how to dress it.  Every woman is shaped different and our clothes are different.  I will tell you I am between a 18-20 with a 28inch inseam.  Yeah.. find that!! :)

I have found a couple GREAT resources for finding your body shape.

#1- Use the Body Shape Calculater from shopyourshape.com
You will need your body measurements
#2- Find out your body shape from Shape Guide

Once you have your body type take a looksy around the internet for the best clothing.

Example:  I am a apple. Shirts with long necklines, empire waist and I need to be conscious of my broad shoulders.  I have been blessed with AWESOME broad shoulders but I don't want to look like a line backer. :)

Building a Wardrobe- Day #4- Your Style

I am so excited to start the 31 days of building a wardrobe on a budget series.  I am linking up with the Nesting Place.  Many bloggers are taking the challenge also! Visit the Nesting Place and check out the many topics.  There are seriously 100s!

RECAP
DAY #3- Accessories

After spending 3 days cleaning, purging and organizing whats next??? What do you do with this new clothing catalog or list??

Take a look at your clothing.  Do you have a style??  Are you a boho princess?? a glamazon??? a chic and traditional gal???

The next step in this wardrobe journey is to try and find your style. I HIGHLY recommend creating a pinterest pinboard for your style.  Pin all the current outfits you love and take a look.   I actually separated my boards by season and function.

Another idea is to google "fashion style" or "style quiz".  These can help you organize some outfit ideas.

My style is VERY ecclectic.  I love jeans and flowy tops but I will put on a dress and heels in a minute!  I love bright loud colors but I will wear a black dress with pearls any day.

RECAP

The next step in building your wardrobe is just as important as cleaning and organizing your closet.  You need to clean your shoes, organizing your accessories and under garments.

#1- Shoes Shoes Shoes
I am a shoe-a-holic.  I love shoes! Shoes are like a finishing touch to an outfit.  The right shoes can make anything work!
  1. Create a shoe repair and cleaning kit
    1. Repair- glue, laces, small clamps, small screw driver.  The easiest thing to do is buy a repair kit online.  I have one for leather, canvas and for soles.
    2. Cleaning kit- Again.. easiest is to buy a kit online.  Important to have one for leather and one for other shoes.
  2. Remove ALL shoes from closet
    1. Check each shoes over.  Look for scuffs, loose soles, tears, or anything you can repair
  3. Clean each shoes
    1. Clean inside with a disinfecting wipe or cleaner
    2. Wipe down outside of the shoe and clean
  4. Make any repairs
Check out this great article about Shoe Repair from Your Daily Muse

After cleaning and repair all of your shoes make sure to add them to your catalog or list.

What do you do if your shoe has a repair you can not make or the shoe is dated???? Check out this shoe refashion tips!!  Also follow my "A New Shoe to You" board on Pinterest HERE

Building a Wardrobe- Day #1- Cleaning Out Your Closet

I am so excited to start the 31 days of building a wardrobe on a budget series.  I am linking up with the Nesting Place.  Many bloggers are taking the challenge also! Visit the Nesting Place and check out the many topics.  There are seriously 100s!

Building a functional wardrobe is not easy.  We wear many hats in our day to day life and your clothes should reflect that.  For example I have a 8 to 4 office job, I go shooting and 4x4ing on the weekend, I work at many of the dog adoption events around Albuquerque and I LOVE LOVE LOVE fashion.  Talk about a eclectic wardrobe!

Before you grab your essentials list you need to see what you already have.  The easiest way to do this is to empty out your closet.

Empty out ONLY your clothing first
#1-Grab 3 decent size boxes, bins or even bags.  Label this FIX, DONATE/SELL, and CLEAN.
#2- As you are pulling pieces from your closet try EVERYTHING on.  If it needs a repair toss it into the FIX bin, Doesn't fit... toss into the DONATE bin, Stain... toss into the CLEAN bin.
#3- As you are trying things on take a picture before returning it to your hanger.  I downloaded the "StylishGirl" App for my Iphone and LOVE IT!!  I catalog all of my clothing, accessories, etc to help me make outfits.  Not required but VERY VERY helpful.  If you do not want to catalog your clothing at least write yourself a list to keep with you.  This can be helpful when shopping. :)
#4- Once your clothing is catalog or your list is made being your repairs and cleaning.  Remember first impressions are very important!
#5- Return clothing to closet and organize by garment type, or color.  Whatever is easiest for you.

Do your clothing always slide off your plastic hangers?  Check out this clever idea from one of my favorite blogs.  Do you have a great tip?  Leave a comment below and I would LOVE to check it out!
