Cows... Cows??? Cows in NM!!

My hubby was driving to work this morning and glanced over to check the kids in the park (He is law enforcement) like he does every morning and noticed COWS!!!!  Cows just walking around and grazing in the park. ONLY IN NEW MEXICO!

Our subdivision sits in the middle of the mesa and King Ranch land.  We have never had their cows come this close but it was kinda cool.  I grew up on a farm(ish) in Michigan so it was like being home.  Well except everything is brown, we have no water, and its scorching hot.

It will be interesting to see if my HOA fixes the park because of the damage or if they will call it "an act of god".  I guess if god is involved they don't have to pay for anything. Can I call my cell phone bill "an act of god?"  Just saying....

Day #15-Beige World-Tote Bags

Take from "Before You Put That On" by Lloyd Boston

AUGUST 8TH- RETIRE YOUR BACKPACK

"Whether a mom, busy professional, or urban dweller, use your backpack only for hiking trips.  The straps wrinkle clothing and cause bunching right under the bust line, the bag portion blocks the majority of your back, and for some petite women it obstructs the view to an otherwise gorgeous derriere.  They're also difficult to remove in a ladylike manner.  A classic tote bag will do the same job and not compromise your look."

I love backpacks but the older I get the more I feel the wear and tear on my body from the many years of carrying a bag that is to heavy.  This is true about my HUGE purses also.  There are so many cute totes out there now.  Why don't you try one??

Below are some of my favorite totes from Pinterest.com

I also love the idea of making your own totes or heading to the local craft store and buying a canvas tote and personalizing it.  :)

Below are some of my fav personalized totes... also from pinterest.com

Craft Room-SNEAK PEAK!

My craft room has been a very long process.  I wanted a space where I could relax, craft and get away from everything.  sssssllllllooooowwwwwlllllyyyyyy......... its becoming that.

Day #14- Beige World- Whats that smell???

AUGUST 7TH- GIVE YOUR CLOTHES THE "WHIFF TEST" FOR FRESHNESS

"Use this trick for any day you need extended freshness.  Start by skipping your perfume.  Instead, apply a fabric refresher spray directly to your clothing, especially the neck and shoulders (where embraces are received, and underarms, of course."

Living in the Albuquerque area and with the warm temperatures staying at a constant smoldering I take this tip very seriously.  No one likes body odor! I try not to wear heavy fragrances as you never know who could be allergic and I have been known to cause my own allergies to stir.  I like fabric refreshers that have a clean crisp scent.  I also keep a small trial size bottle in my desk drawer.  A very smart man taught me this trick :)  Thanks Jerome!

Thrifty Craft Room Organizing-Spice Rack

A few weeks ago I picked up two spice racks at an estate sale for $3/rack.  Originally I was going to use both of them in my craft room as storage but my hubby stole one for the kitchen.  I needed storage for my quick use paints and thread.

The first step into making over these treasures was to sand off the dated paint.  The rack itself was in good shape :)

Painting the rack was a HUGE pain!  I ended up using 2 coats of rose by valspar.  This paint is a re-use from my craft room.

My finished rack.  I purchased the glitter letters from Walmart in the scrapbook section and the yard flowers are a Michaels clearance.  Sorry for the bad cell pics.  I still can't find my camera. :(

More thrifty craft room organizing tomorrow....  Sneak Peak...

Office Supply Art by Tati and Mandy

Friday afternoon was kinda slow in our office.  After the market closed we had about an hour left in our work week.  With Thursdays 500 point drop in the dow we needed a fun project.  :)  Tati is the receptionist for our office.  She turns 18 years old today (HAPPY BDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and is a brilliant young woman.

I first met her when she was about 13 or 14.  She spent a couple of summers filing in the office and doing small projects.  I can't describe how proud I am of her.  She graduated 7th in her high school and received an academic scholarship to attend UNM.  What an accomplishment!

Tati has spent the summer helping me out in the office.  Our receptionist left in May and I needed someone I could count on for the summer.  Like always Tati was there.  :)  We spent the whole summer of 2011 listening to def leppard and trying to keep our laughter down.

Tati is a very creative gal and she MUST be organized.  She even organizes me. :)  Friday afternoon we were done with our tasks, the office was quiet so I asked her to clean out my desk drawer just to kill time.  Keep in mind we were also listening to our favorite def leppard songs as loud as my office speakers would go.  As Tati was cleaning she decided to make everyone in the office a going away present.

She made everyone in the office an "Office Supply Wreath"  I told you this girl was creative!  After I saw her first one I told her we need to take pics for my blog with instructions!

STEP #1- CLEAN OUT YOUR DESK

STEP 2- CREATE RUBBER BAND BALL.  (I don't know why but Tati likes them)

STEP 3- CLIP MED BINDER CLIPS TOGETHER IN A CIRCLE

STEP 4- ADD 2ND ROW OF MEDIUM CLIPS

STEP 5- ADD SMALL CLIPS

STEP 6- ADDED COLORFUL EMBELLISHMENTS

So there you go... Fun office inspired wreaths by Tati :)

Day #12 & 13-Beige World

What a busy two days!!  Aside from my full time job I have been working hard designing my blog, writing up content, finishing my craft room, keeping my house clean and making time for those I care about.  I decided to condense the last two days of Lloyd Bostons book "Before You Put That On" as I have been super busy.

AUGUST 5TH- TRY DRESSING FROM YOUR HEAD, NOT YOUR HEART

  • "Create a smart ensemble that you would want to see coming into a room.
Here are some of my smart ensembles

AUGUST 6TH- GO VINTAGE WITH YOUR BAG
  • "Thrift shops and vintage clothing stores are hotbed for desingers who are looking to get "inspired" to create new accessories.  Why not grab an original as a designer would for a fraction of what a new bag would be"
  • I love to grab quirky pieces at a vintage shop or thrift store and re-use them.  I have so many costume jewelry pins that I clip to my bags.  I think it could be an obsession.  I love taking something old and creating a story.

Day #11- Beige World

Taken from "Before You Put That On" by Lloyd Boston

AUGUST 4TH- TAKE JUST ABOUT ANY OUTFIT TO A HIGH GLAMOUR.

"The smallest accessory can be the simplest style trick to turn your entire outfit around, making it appear more glamorous and sophisticated.  Wear a quit strand of pears and make a little sheath dress speak louder.  Toss on a sparkly, vintage brooch with jeans and  a blazer"

************1ST 37's 42 LINK PARTY! *********

LINK UP ALL YOUR GREAT ACCESSORIES.

I have two rules:
1.  Please follow our blog and link back either using one of our buttons or a direct link :)

AUGUST 3- REMEMBER WHO YOU WERE BEFORE YOU BECAME A MOM

"So many women raising kids let them take over, allowing their style to quickly head south.  Totally understandable.  But you don't have to go out like that.  Look into vintage classics is a good way to get a fresh head-to-tow style on a family budget"

I am a dog and ferret mommy.  Below are some of my favorite "fur-kid" friendly outfits.  Enjoy!

New Mexico Stormy Night

I was writing some blogs for the rest of this week about living in the beige world and I glanced outside.  Out my kitchen window all I could see was a purple sky.  I tried to take some pics while the sky was gorgeous but my wall was to high.  So I jumped into my FJ Cruiser and drove about a mile from my house to the very top of a hill.  Its nights like this that remind me why I love New Mexico.  :)  Enjoy!!

Abby says HI!!!
